13th November 2015

Dear Parents and Carers,

Parents Evening

Thank you for all your support.  It was lovely to see so many parents.  We at QPA are so proud of all the children’s achievements and enjoy sharing their success with you during this evening.

Year 3 WOW Day

Thank you again for all your support. The children’s and the staff’s  head wear were amazing. They put a considerable amount of effort in and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Year 4 WOW Day

Year 4 have started their project on Victorian Britain.  They enjoyed finding out what life was like as a child, including making and playing games which the Victorians would have played.

Year 5 WOW Day

The tudor costumes the children wore were fabulous.  We had a range from peasants or pick pockets to Kings and Queens.  They thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and play from the visiting theatre company.

Year 6

The children enjoyed going to the Odeon Cinema last week to see Dolphin Tale 2.  This kick started their current literacy topic.  They also experienced a ‘mock’ evacuation as part of the start of their IPC topic on World War II.  They all got into role well, especially the staff.

Head Bumps

Please note that from now on if your child has a head bump during the school day, they will come home with a wristband rather than the previous note.  This is to ensure that you are aware that your child has had a head bump.

Of course, should it be deemed a more serious injury, you would be notified immediately by telephone.

Life Education Bus – 24th November 2015

For four days beginning Tuesday, your child will be involved in a visit from the Life Education Centre mobile classroom. During their session the children will follow a programme which is aimed at providing them with the knowledge, skills and self confidence to enable them to make healthy choices about their future.  In addition, children learn skills of friendship and how to cope with a range of social situations and peer pressure.  This will complement the work done in school during their PSHE lessons.  There is an additional cost to the school for the bus and we would be grateful if parents could make a donation of £3.00 per child.  Please fill in the slip at the end of this newsletter.

Tea with the Mayor

Myself, the Head Boy and Head Girl enjoyed having afternoon tea with the Mayor last Friday.  As you know, we invite the Mayor to many events at Queen’s Park Academy and it was an honour to be invited to have tea in return.  Please keep your eye out in the press for photographs and a review.

Christmas Concert

As always our QPA are proudly representing us this year at the annual Carol Concert at the Pavilion.  They are currently undergoing rehearsals.  Tickets are available from the box office if you would like to watch the children perform.  Queen’s Park Academy is performing on the evening of Wednesday 25th November 2015.

We will be shortly starting rehearsals for our Christmas celebration at Bournemouth School for Girls on 15th December 2015.  If your child does not celebrate Christmas, please can you ensure that their class teacher is aware.  We have activities set up for those children for when rehearsals and celebrations take place.  We really appreciate your support with this matter.  We will be doing an afternoon and evening performance so please save the date to ensure your child is able to perform and you can join us to watch.  A separate letter will be sent out with further details and ticket information.

School Council

Our School Council has been very busy already.  New members have been elected from each class along with a Chair and Secretary.  Their first job was to decide which charities Queen’s Park Academy will support this year in addition to the PTA.  A vote was taken from their classes, the shortlist was then voted on.  All votes were tallied and collated.  The chosen charities were :  Text Santa, Macmillan, Julia’s House and NSPCC.  The first charity to support will be Text Santa, details of which are contained within the separate letter enclosed.

Will take place on 2nd December 2015 (see separate letter today) Please note this will also be a mufti day in exchange for a Christmas class hamper donation.
